Fiber Resources
- Testing fineness
- Yocum-McColl -- Commercial wool testing lab that tests raw wool for yield and fiber diameter to provide selection (and marketing) data for breeders. Prices vary a bit (with time and volume), but each micron test and report is under $10US.
- Fiber co-ops and pools
- Alpaca Fiber Cooperative of North America (AFCNA) -- Formed in 1998 by AOBA, AFCNA's goal is to create, promote and market alpaca products for its members. Members send their raw alpaca fiber to AFCNA, which resells it in South America and uses the proceeds to buy finished product to resell to members at wholesale cost. AFCNA actively develops alpaca products and is working to build a North American market for alpaca fiber and products. Members can rebuy yarns and finished products.
- New England Alpaca Fiber Pool (NEAFP) -- Formed in 1999 or 2000 by several New England-based alpaca farms. Members send their raw alpaca fiber to NEAFP, which processes the fiber in old New England fiber mills. Their focus is on producing yarn and finished products, which are sold back to members at manufacturing cost.
- Rocky Mountain Lama Fiber Pool Founded in 1997 to promote the shearing and use of North American llama and alpaca fiber. Their main focus is producing roving and yarn.
- Stonehenge Fiber Mill Founded in 1999, Stonehenge can transforms raw alpaca wool into batts and roving for spinning.
